Project Description

Basalt is a low cost replacement for steel, fiberglass and other materials. In many building construction, automotive and aviation cases it is a much better choice, not only due to its lower cost but also due to it being non-corrosive and 1/9 the weight of steel. Basalt fiber is relatively new in the fiber reinforced polymers (FRPs) and structural composites. It has a similar chemical composition as glass fiber but has better strength characteristics, and unlike most glass fibers is highly resistant to alkaline, acidic and salt attack making it a good candidate for concrete, bridge, shoreline structures and even boats hulls and aircraft structures. Crushed basalt rock is the only raw material required for manufacturing the fiber. Basalt is proven to be non-carcinogenic and non-toxic. We could write books about basalt benefits, lower cost, better than steel, etc... But frankly, whatever you want to know about basalt can be quite easily found on the internet, just spend a few hours reading any of the many websites on this subject, and you will be quite surprised, amazed and impressed.
